Um tinha carroceria cup\u00ea de teto r\u00edgido e se chamava <strong>Corvair<\/strong> (mesmo nome do <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/cpassado3\/corvair-1.htm\">sed\u00e3 de produ\u00e7\u00e3o que surgiria em 1960<\/a>), com um desenho belo, limpo e simples. Inspirado nos esportivos europeus, lembrava os Ferraris e os primeiros Porsches. Sua cor inicial vinho, com a qual apareceu no Motorama (evento em que a GM apresentava carros-conceito) do come\u00e7o daquele ano, foi substitu\u00edda por um verde bem claro ao ser reapresentado no Sal\u00e3o de Los Angeles, em mar\u00e7o.<\/p>\n<p>O outro modelo era a <strong>Nomad,<\/strong> que mesclava os tra\u00e7os do esportivo com as linhas de uma perua \u2014 contudo, foi constru\u00edda sobre um chassi de autom\u00f3vel Chevrolet, com seis lugares em dois bancos inteiri\u00e7os. A Nomad causou tanto furor no Motorama\u00a0que no ano seguinte seria lan\u00e7ada como parte da linha familiar da marca, junto \u00e0 gama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/cpassado3\/belair-1.htm\">Bel Air<\/a>, abandonando a frente do Corvette. Al\u00e9m do desenho que mostrava certas semelhan\u00e7as ao Sting Ray de produ\u00e7\u00e3o, a ser lan\u00e7ado em 1963, o &#8220;Q&#8221; trazia motor V8 de 4,65 litros na frente, transmiss\u00e3o em <a href=\"https:\/\/autolivraria.com.br\/bc\/glossario-t\/#tran\">transeixo<\/a> na traseira, chassi-plataforma em a\u00e7o (como no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/cpassado2\/356-1.htm\">Porsche 356<\/a>) e peso bastante baixo, 1.010 kg. A recess\u00e3o econ\u00f4mica de 1958, por\u00e9m, fez o projeto ser abandonado \u2014 e levaria 40 anos para que o transeixo chegasse ao Corvette de linha, na quinta gera\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Em 1958 aparecia o <strong>XP-700<\/strong>, concebido por <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/hm\/300-bill-mitchell-1.htm\">Bill Mitchell<\/a>, vice-presidente de estilo da GM,\u00a0que adicionou uma grade mais pronunciada, similar \u00e0 do <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/prep-inter\/conc-64.htm\">Oldsmobile F88<\/a> de quatro anos antes, e traseira ao estilo &#8220;rabo de pato&#8221;, como a que seria adotada em 1961 no Corvette de s\u00e9rie. Mitchell tinha como lazer ca\u00e7ar tubar\u00f5es na costa da Fl\u00f3rida. Certo dia ca\u00e7ou um mako shark, feroz tubar\u00e3o da regi\u00e3o, e decidiu criar um carro-conceito com os mesmos tons de preto a cinza-claro. O estilista Larry Shinoda obteve para ele linhas atraentes e intimidadoras, que inspiraram o Sting Ray de produ\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Quando este foi lan\u00e7ado \u2014 em 1963 \u2014 por\u00e9m, a equipe de estilo j\u00e1 trabalhava no <strong>Mako Shark II<\/strong>, apresentado em 1965 com teto retr\u00e1til, far\u00f3is escamote\u00e1veis, limpadores de para-brisa ocultos por uma tampa, aerof\u00f3lio posterior m\u00f3vel por um comando el\u00e9trico e aletas ajust\u00e1veis na traseira para melhor estabilidade em alta. Toda a se\u00e7\u00e3o dianteira movia-se para frente para acesso \u00e0 mec\u00e2nica. Rodas dianteiras lisas e traseiras encobertas, linhas muito suaves e aus\u00eancia de adornos externos buscavam menor resist\u00eancia ao ar, embora a aus\u00eancia de teto na cabine conflitasse com esse objetivo. Uma terceira edi\u00e7\u00e3o do carro viria em 1975, o <strong>Mulsanne,<\/strong> pintado de prata em vez de vermelho, com far\u00f3is atr\u00e1s de lentes fixas \u2014 n\u00e3o mais escamote\u00e1veis \u2014, novos para-choques e interior refeito. Foram constru\u00eddos dois, com carrocerias algo diferentes, usando o motor V8 de 7,45 litros associado \u00e0 transmiss\u00e3o do <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/cpassado2\/toronado-1.htm\">Oldsmobile Toronado<\/a>, que tinha tra\u00e7\u00e3o dianteira. A GM n\u00e3o pretendia mostr\u00e1-lo ao p\u00fablico, mas n\u00e3o viu alternativa ao saber que a Ford apresentaria o <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/classicos\/pantera-1.htm\">De Tomaso Pantera<\/a> nos sal\u00f5es do mesmo ano, obtendo grande visita\u00e7\u00e3o ao estande.<\/p>\n<p>Tamb\u00e9m com motor entre os eixos era o <strong>XP-895<\/strong> do Sal\u00e3o de Nova York de 1973. Curiosamente, sua carroceria n\u00e3o era de pl\u00e1stico e fibra de vidro como em todo Corvette, mas de alum\u00ednio, feita pela Reynolds Metals Company. A solu\u00e7\u00e3o era estudada pela GM \u2014 como v\u00e1rias outras marcas \u2014, mas foi abandonada por problemas de confiabilidade e elevado consumo. As portas abriam-se como asas de gaivota e tanto a frente quanto a traseira eram baixas e afiladas.<\/p>\n<p>Tr\u00eas anos mais tarde o Four Rotor era renomeado <strong>Aerovette<\/strong> e ganhava um V8 de 6,6 litros em posi\u00e7\u00e3o central-traseira transversal. O <strong>Corvette Indy<\/strong> era mais uma proposta de motor central, desta vez um V8 compacto (apenas 2,65 litros) com duplo comando nos cabe\u00e7otes, 32 v\u00e1lvulas e dois turbos com <a href=\"https:\/\/autolivraria.com.br\/bc\/glossario-r\/#inte\">resfriadores de ar<\/a>. Desenhado pela inglesa Lotus, era o mesmo motor Chevrolet da F\u00f3rmula Indy, com cerca de 600 cv.<\/p>\n<p>O projeto inclu\u00eda tra\u00e7\u00e3o integral, dire\u00e7\u00e3o atuante nas quatro rodas, freios antitravamento (ABS), controle de tra\u00e7\u00e3o e suspens\u00e3o ativa, que ajustava o amortecimento e mantinha constante a altura de rodagem. Em vez de retrovisores, um monitor de v\u00eddeo no painel mostrava o que havia atr\u00e1s do ve\u00edculo.
