no alto, o Dodge Viper de 1989<\/em><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fazia ent\u00e3o s\u00f3 12 anos que Charles Brady King havia dirigido um carro pela primeira vez em Detroit. Foi ali que surgiu a primeira concession\u00e1ria de ve\u00edculos do pa\u00eds, inaugurada em 1898 por William E. Metzger, que um ano mais tarde fazia uma apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o de autom\u00f3veis \u2014 el\u00e9tricos e a vapor, nenhum a gasolina \u2014 a um p\u00fablico ainda n\u00e3o acostumado \u00e0s &#8220;carruagens sem cavalos&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A\u00a0corrida pelo espa\u00e7o inspirava que as<br \/>\nf\u00e1bricas adotassem &#8220;rabos de peixe&#8221;<br \/>\ne escapamentos que lembravam turbinas<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tamb\u00e9m em 1899, Ransom E. Olds transferia sua empresa Olds Motor Works \u2014 mais tarde Oldsmobile, uma divis\u00e3o da General Motors \u2014 de Lansing para Detroit, tornando-se o primeiro construtor de autom\u00f3veis na cidade. Quando aconteceu o sal\u00e3o, a Ford j\u00e1 existia (desde 1903), assim como um grande n\u00famero de pequenos fabricantes baseados em meios artesanais. A General Motors como corpora\u00e7\u00e3o viria em 1908 e a Chrysler, a outra das &#8220;tr\u00eas grandes&#8221; dos EUA, apenas em 1925. Todas estabeleceram-se na regi\u00e3o de Detroit (a Ford em Dearborn, ali perto), que conquistaria o t\u00edtulo de capital mundial do autom\u00f3vel.<\/p>\n<p>Em 1910 o estado de Michigan contava com 42 unidades de fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o de carros, contra 31 de Indiana e 29 de Ohio \u2014 no total eram 116 por todo o pa\u00eds. J\u00e1 havia ve\u00edculos de 44 marcas no sal\u00e3o daquele ano, que se mudava para um ambiente maior, o Wayne Gardens. com formas arredondadas, TV para o banco traseiro e o motor do Viper. No mesmo ano a Mercedes-Benz levava o projeto F-100, uma grande perua repleta de inova\u00e7\u00f5es: banco do motorista no centro, teto com c\u00e9lulas solares para obter energia, controles por voz.
