Um convers\u00edvel vinha no ano seguinte, mas foi com a remodela\u00e7\u00e3o da linha de carros grandes da Mercury para 1952 que a designa\u00e7\u00e3o passou a toda sua s\u00e9rie de topo, incluindo o\u00a0sed\u00e3 de quatro portas e (um ano mais tarde) a perua.<\/p>\n<p>Com 5,14 metros de comprimento e 3 m entre eixos, o Monterey exibia formas t\u00edpicas da \u00e9poca, com fartos cromados, pontas de lan\u00e7a no para-choque dianteiro e para-lamas traseiros algo salientes. Comparado ao anterior, tinha o centro do cap\u00f4 bem mais baixo e para-brisa em uma s\u00f3 pe\u00e7a. O interior levava seis pessoas em bancos inteiri\u00e7os. A gama de op\u00e7\u00f5es crescia com um sed\u00e3 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/autolivraria.com.br\/bc\/glossario-h\/#hard\" target=\"_blank\">hardtop<\/a>,<\/em> sem coluna central; o comprimento chegava a 5,24 m e o carro estava mais largo e baixo. Op\u00e7\u00f5es de conforto inclu\u00edam bancos com ajuste el\u00e9trico, dire\u00e7\u00e3o assistida e r\u00e1dio.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A carroceria fastback\u00a0aparecia no esportivo<br \/>\nMarauder em 1963; no ano seguinte<br \/>\nvinha\u00a0o\u00a0V8\u00a0de 7,0 litros com at\u00e9\u00a0425 cv<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Embora deixasse de ser o Mercury grande mais luxuoso, posi\u00e7\u00e3o transferida ao Montclair, o Monterey evolu\u00eda em mec\u00e2nica com o motor V8 da s\u00e9rie Y de 292 pol\u00b3 (4,8 litros) do <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolivraria.com.br\/cpassado2\/tbird-1.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Ford Thunderbird<\/a>, com 188 cv com c\u00e2mbio manual ou 198 com o autom\u00e1tico. Quem quisesse desempenho ainda melhor seria atendido no ano seguinte com o V8 de 312 pol\u00b3 (5,1 litros) da mesma fam\u00edlia com 210 a 235 cv. O volante com se\u00e7\u00e3o central recuada era uma das medidas de seguran\u00e7a em colis\u00f5es.<\/p>\n<p>O exagero em formas e dimens\u00f5es que tomou conta da ind\u00fastria norte-americana naquela d\u00e9cada chegava ao Monterey em 1957, quando o comprimento alcan\u00e7ava 5,36 m, e o entre-eixos, 3,10 m. A carroceira ganhava perfil mais baixo \u2014 o assoalho estava mais perto do solo, permitido pelo novo chassi \u2014 e os para-lamas traseiros destacavam uma se\u00e7\u00e3o larga. Os far\u00f3is permaneciam dois, mas seriam quatro no ano seguinte, aproveitando a mudan\u00e7a na legisla\u00e7\u00e3o. O V8 406 com 385 cv tornava-se op\u00e7\u00e3o ao V8 390, que oferecia 250 cv com carburador de corpo duplo e 300 cv com um qu\u00e1druplo. Os motores seis-cilindros, V8 292 e V8 352 deixavam o mercado.<\/p>\n<p>A carroceria <a href=\"https:\/\/autolivraria.com.br\/bc\/glossario-f\/#fast\" target=\"_blank\"><em>fastback<\/em><\/a>, com estilo de traseira similar ao do Sports Hardtop da Ford, aparecia no mesmo ano na vers\u00e3o esportiva\u00a0Marauder. O conjunto S-55 inclu\u00eda motor 390 com 300 cv e interior mais esportivo. Contudo, na linha 1964 a Mercury recolocava o Monterey como s\u00e9rie mais acess\u00edvel entre os modelos grandes com a volta do Montclair e do Park Lane. O ano seguinte trazia a op\u00e7\u00e3o do maior motor j\u00e1 oferecido no modelo, o V8 Lincoln de 460 pol\u00b3 (7,5 litros) e 244 cv, mas a oferta teve curta dura\u00e7\u00e3o: a Mercury encerrava o modelo para 1975, deixando em seu lugar o Marquis e acrescentando o Grand Marquis como topo de linha.
